How to Brush a Dog’s Teeth

Standard australian labradoodles

Did you know that you have to brush your dog’s teeth? While it might seem like a weird thing to do, the fact of the matter is that black labradoodle puppies still get plaque, cavities, and gum disease, just like humans. In order to make sure that your pups’ chompers stay nice and healthy, try brushing your dog’s teeth this way.

Don’t Use Human Brushes or Toothpaste.

When brushing black labradoodle puppies’ teeth, you can’t use a toothbrush or toothpaste meant for humans. Go to a pet store and pick out things that were designed to help care for dogs’ teeth. You may want to pick up extra toothpaste for your black labradoodle puppies, as they’re going to swallow a lot of the paste as you clean their teeth, so it’s a good idea to have a bit more just in case.

Train Them to Let You Brush Their Teeth.

You can’t expect your black labradoodle puppies to just let you brush their teeth for as long as they need to right off the bat. Instead, put your hand over the top of their muzzles and gently lift their lips. Then rub their teeth with the toothbrush and toothpaste for a few seconds. If they behaved well, give them a treat. Do this once a day for a few weeks, getting them acclimated. Each time you brush your black labradoodle puppies’ teeth, increase the amount of time you spend, until they’re comfortable letting you do it for a while.

Train Them to Let You Get Inside.

Once your black labradoodle puppies are comfortable letting you clean their teeth for a while, you can start opening their mouth gently to get the tops and backs of their teeth. Train them to let you do this the same way you trained to let you brush their teeth for a while.

Brush Their Teeth Fully a Couple Times a Week.

Ideally, you should brush your black labradoodle puppies’ teeth a couple times a week, but at the very least it should be once a week. There are softer chew toys and bones you can give your dogs that will help them keep their teeth strong, clean, and healthy, tiding them over until the next time you brush, but these are no substitute for brushing.

When most people look at chocolate labradoodle puppies for sale, they’re not really thinking about taking care of the chocolate labradoodle puppy’s teeth, but it’s a vital thing to do once the dog is home. If you have any questions about brushing a dog’s teeth, feel free to share in the comments.
